Preparation
PPE:
- Splash Goggles
- Lab Coat
- Gloves
Required Materials/Media:
- Silica Gel 60
- Activated Alumina
- Ethanol (Denatured, 200 Proof, 190 Proof)
Procedure
- Fully dissolve crude in a solvent with a 10:1 ratio (1L Crude for every 10L Ethanol)
- Allow mixture to cool to room temperature if heated.
- Filter over a bed of Alumina on top of Silica Gel in a filter funnel.
- Cool solution to 0˚C.
- Repeat Step 2
- Take a representative sample of the solution and add dry ice until the solution stops bubbling.
- Repeat Step 4 with sample
- If more solids are filtered out in Step 7, repeat steps 6 and 7 with entire solution.
- If NO solids were present in Step 7, or after Step 8, proceed to next process.
- For additional process guidance please ask about Consultant Recommendations.
For Ambient and Crude (room) temperature extraction:
- 1st Cold Crash= (1-5hrs until solids form)
- 2nd Cold Crash= (8-24hrs or until solids form)
- 3rd if necessary
Temperature Range: 0˚C – 40˚C (colder temp. can be faster)
Post-Cold Crash
Adsorbents:
- Activated Hardwood Carbon
- T-5™
- T-41™
- Activated Alumina
- Silica Gel 60
- Place adsorbent in an appropriate vacuum filtration system and pass solution through the adsorbent and filter material.
*Bed Depth of 1-2” above the filter material* - After collecting solution from the final filtration, use Falling Film or Rotary Evaporator to remove solvent.
