Who We Are
Separation science as a practice, not a product.
Carbon Chemistry started as a specialty chemicals distributor — activated carbon, silica gel, bleaching earth, magnesium silicate. The kind of purification media that sits between a raw material and a finished product in pharmaceutical, food, and industrial processes.
What we found, working in that business, is that most buyers don't want media. They want the problem solved. A distributor who ships a drum of GAC and walks away is leaving most of the value on the table — and leaving the customer without the information they actually need to make the media work.
Our direction is toward the full problem: understanding the separation challenge, specifying the right media, and — in the case of PFAS remediation — developing the service infrastructure to handle the entire lifecycle. Media supply is still part of what we do. It's no longer all of it.
Our Approach
Mechanism-first, not product-first.
The first question in any separation problem should be about chemistry: what is the compound, what is the matrix, what mechanism will reliably capture it? Product recommendations follow from that answer — not the reverse.
This means we'll tell you when a standard grade will work and when it won't. We'll tell you when a competitor's product is the right answer. We'll tell you when no media-only solution exists for your problem.
The goal is to be worth talking to — not to maximize a transaction. That approach takes longer to build, and compounds over time.
